I recall when tNS made the decision to adopt a PPS based on the Australian model, which led others to follow. But I think B.C. zlready had an autonomous prosecution service. And by the by, is Martin still in the job as Director? If so, he must be the longest serving in the Commonwealth.
Hi Rick, NS was the first Canadian jurisdiction to adopt the Aussie model. I knew that BC had charging approval/authority - we discussed at the time but didn't recommend it. Happy to amend my post if I've misrepresented something. The main point is a PPS would be a good thing in a Trump administration. Martin is retired. I'm having dinner with him and a few others this Wednesday. I'll say hi for you.
OMG I love it. The 'fourth instalment of the Trump Trilogy'. So appropriate. There's so much more to squeeze in about the next President's ferocity and insanity.
I cannot start my day with this, however. I will digest it this evening with a double gin and tonic if all goes well or even if it does not.... Thanks for doing this Doug. Always so engaging ...

Thanks for this succinct essay, Doug.
I believe the politicization of virtually every aspect of American society does tremendous damage to the fabric of that society.
We here in Canada need to be extra vigilant to maintain independent oversight of key institutions designed to protect against that political quagmire.
